During Quarter 3 we studied the novel by looking at Melody's world through the following conceptual lenses:
Intelligence The capacity for learning, reasoning, understanding, and similar forms of mental activity; aptitude in grasping truths, relationships, facts, meanings Discrimination The treatment or consideration of, or making a distinction in favor of or against, a person or thing based on the group, class, or category to which that person or thing belongs rather than on individual merit: Ability 1) Power or capacity to do or act physically or mentally 2) Competence in an activity or occupation because of one's skill, training, or other qualification Communication The imparting or interchange of thoughts, opinions, or information by speech, writing, or signs. During Quarter 4 we studied the novel by looking at Melody's world through the following conceptual lenses: Competition Rivalry between two or more persons or groups for an object desired in common, usually resulting in a victor and a loser but not necessarily involving the destruction of the latter. Inclusion To become or feel a part of something else Relationships 1) A connection, association, or involvement. 2) An emotional or other connection between people. Conflict 1) To come into collision or disagreement; be contradictory, at variance, or in opposition; clash 2) Incompatibility or interference, as of one idea, desire, event, or activity with another STUDENT TASK Students must create a blog entry with their belief on the following: GENERALIZATION A general statement showing the connection between two of the concepts eg. Discrimination towards people often makes them feel less intelligent. SUPPORTING EVIDENCE An example from the novel (preferably with Chapter/page references that can prove the statement) and a quote to support it. 1) When Dr. Hugely assumed that Melody was mentally retarded because she couldn't answer the questions on his test, Melody chose to pretend to not understand him anymore and just stare at the wall.
